#1. Parcul Dendrarium

 

Păreri: „This is probably the most interesting place in Chișinău by Moldovan standards. We stayed for an hour and saw over 30 wedding ‘photo shoots’. The park is the best park in Chișinău for definite, compared to other European parks I wouldn’t say it is that great though.”

„The place is perfect for everything: jogging, walking, playing with kids, doing some sports and relax. It’s a big park, very clear and many ways to follow. I used to go there with my 5 children in the morning to make our morning walk. They love this place. As well as me – I could make some exercises there!”

#2. Grădina Publică Ștefan cel Mare

 

Păreri: „The perfect place to run away from the noise of the capital. Plenty of benches to sit, and plenty of trees to help you find some shade.”

„Great meeting point in the center of the old city. Paths are lit at night and free wifi is available. Lots of kid-friendly areas and play grounds, and plenty of benches for resting, reading or (more often) courting young couples. The center walkway is lined with monuments to poets and writers of the area.”

#3. Complexul Memorial Eternitate

 

Păreri: „I would not have known the red pillars represented gunstocks had I not read reviews beforehand, due to the sheer size and heigh they reached. The changing of the guard (on top of the hour) was worth the trip, but my lodging was also in this area of the city.”

„A very interesting memorial of WWII with fascinating Soviet sculptures and a beautiful garden. A must go when in Chișinău.”

#4. Muzeul Național de Etnografie și Istorie Naturală

 

Păreri: „A good museum with plenty of displays about many different aspects of Moldovan culture. An interesting visit.”

„In one day… so interesting. More than 10 exhibitions rooms. All about culture, land, animals, vegetation, etc. So much fun. Unique pieces of ancient history and science of 19 century. Deserves you day!”

#5. Mănăstirea Sfântului Mucenic Teodor Tiron

 

Păreri: „I found Manastirea St. Teodor Tiron charming and beautifully radiant, the clean blue paint and golden domes glistening in the sun. I was fortunate to witness (not speaking the language or of the religious, what I concluded to be) a blessing ritual: a couple brought a bottle of water and asked the priest to bless it. I did not have a head scarf with me, but there were scarfs to borrow available at the front door.”

„A beauttiful church especially when the sun hits the gold on the onion domes and turrets. The roses were pretty and smell of honeysuckle was nice. Sadly, I did not bring a head scarf so I was not able to go inside.”

#6. Monumentul lui Ștefan cel Mare și Sfânt

 

Păreri: „This statue being 5th on the list of attractions in Moldova really gives you a good indication of how many things there are to do in this city. It is just a statue, it’s okay. I wouldn’t have gone out of my way to see it. I wouldn’t see it again. I took a photo of it and immediately moved on.”

„Make sure you take a walk to see this great monument when visiting Chisinau! Lovely park directly behind to cool down in the shade and watch the world go by.”

#7. Catedrala Nașterea Domnului

 

Păreri: „We were taken to the Cathedral by our guide Lorenzia and shown the different altars. When we attended the Cathedral it was reasonably busy but we were told on some days there can be queues to the bell tower outside to pray at these altars, particularly the one for health.”

„The cathedral interior is beautiful with a fine altar, magnificent chandelier, many icons and other paints. It is well worth a visit.”

#8. Grădina Botanică a Academiei de Științe a Moldovei

 

Păreri: „The Botanical Gardens are at the edge of Kishinev on the airport side (taxi: 40 MDL from the centre, about €2). (Watch out for the inscrutable, invisible traffic lights and speed cameras:) Bring good walking shoes. This is larger than Hyde Park. A lot of fallen trees, still not cleaned up; rather a wild neglected beauty – a nice change from the city.”

„It’s not really an attraction. Not much of amusement, no food/drinks but it’s a very good place for a long relaxing walk.”

#9. Muzeul Național de Arheologie și Istorie al Moldovei

 

Păreri: „Well worth a visit when in Chisinau – places the history of Moldova in context and has particularly interesting exhibitions on the 20th Century history during the two world wars and as the Soviet Republic. The treasure room in the basement is a must-see!”

„I am just very interested in history and i spent there over 3 hours reading all the tags and information. It was all written in English which made it so much easier for a foreigner like me. Of course I loved the gun and military collection.”

#10. Biserica Schimbarea la față a Mântuitorului

 

Păreri: „The colors,the shine,such a beautiful Cathedral area with many buildings! Right in the center of the city.”

„It almost looks out of place for where it is, wedged on a busy street corner. This is a beautiful Cathedral both inside and out and a great place to stop in to enjoy the colorful yet peaceful interior. Frequently you can see homeless people out front (there are usually two regulars) but they are harmless and respectful.”

#11. Arcul de Triumf

 

Păreri: „The Arch, along with the church, the park, and the government building across the street, provides great photo opportunities. Moreover, sitting in the park viewing the Arch and church, is a place to reflect on the history of Moldova and the politics of the country now.”

„Nothing spectacular about the arch, but, it is a great place to take a picture with the Moldovan flag.”

#12. Muzeul Pușkin

 

Păreri: „Pushkin Museum in Chișinău is unique since it is the second intactly preserved house of this well-known man of letters (after Pushkin’s family estate at Mikhailovskoye, Pskov region in Russia) in the world. Don’t be confused however, the house in the picture is not the house where he lived – this is the museum building. The true Pushkin’s house is in the back yard – very small 2×2 m room, with original surroundings and uncovered floor from where you can literally see the ground.”

„A very interesting museum about the time spent in Chișinău by Pushkin. The museum holds some of the personal objects of Russian poet. The location is a little hard to find.”

#13. Cimitirul evreiesc

 

Păreri: „We walked here since we were struggling to find anything to do. It was worth it. So many graves and sadly, left to nature and as a result has become overgrown and unkept. Still interesting though. I would have liked to have known some information about the place though.”

„The ruins of the funeral sinagogue represent an unique architectural object in Moldova. For some reasons, no one takes care about the cemetery. Anyway, in a good weather it is a must-see place for those who would like to discover the history of jewish people in Moldova.”

#14. Muzeul orașului Chișinău

 

Păreri: „As others have said, it is rather small, but you get a great feel for the history of the city, with many good old photographs. I was hoping to buy some postcards of them, but none are available. But the highlight is definitely the view from the top! You can walkk right around – it is not that much higher than the other nearby buildings, but it’s enough for some great views in all directions. Be sure to go on a day with good weather.”

„The museum is located in the old water tower and it has 4 rooms on 4 different levels, objects covering several centuries, from old coins to old tools and pictures. Don’t miss the panoramic view of the city from the top.”

#15. Piața Centrală

 

Păreri: „One of the experienced I enjoyed the most in Chișinău was this market. We went there not only to buy stuff, but also for the experience itself. We returned with bags full of fresh and delicious fruits and vegetables. Local fruits are very very cheap and with an incredible rich taste. The market itself is rather chaotic, but very colorful and enjoyable, with nice people selling fresh stuff. What I like is that many of them are also farmers selling their own products.”

„I visited Chișinău mainly for a photography trip on local traditions, so Piața Centrală was the perfect shooting location for me. Lots of different sections of the market, with similar wares clustered together (cheese, produce, meat, shoes, electronics, school materials, ie traditional blouse, and etc). It is easily the largest outdoor market I have been to in my travels.”

#16. Parcul Afgan

 

Păreri: „One of the most visited places at Riscani district in Chisinau. There are times when you can’t even find any place to sit.”

„Every 15th of February hundreds of people gather here to commemorate the Afghan War. This is a small, clean and picturesque park in the Râșcani neighborhood of Chișinău. People of any age, who live nearby like to stay here for long every day. Kids prefer the playground, teens roller-skate, and grown-ups usually play chess or domino. There is also a set of big wooden street chess here. Plenty of shops and cafes nearby.”

Păreri: „If you like orthodox churches – it’s worth walking down to the end of the town to see this one. It’s quite small, but well kept.”

#18. Centrul Cultural Evreiesc

 

Păreri: „This center feels very modern and Western. It’s a nice center, not much to see historically and the nearby synagogue is pretty basic as well but worth the trip. If your interested in Jewish history in Moldova this is a good place to get information.”

#19. Parcul Alunelul

 

Păreri: „This place is not worth making a trip to visit, as are a dozen similar parks in town. For those in the area, it is a nice place for a walk or to let the kids play. The Pogrom memorial is on the edge of the park, near Dumbrava cafe, If you want to visit it, take the 1, 5, or 8 trolleybus and get off at the Zorile stop.”

„Such a quiet an pastoral park in the center of Chișinău. Several trolley buses get there or 20 minutes by foot from the Cathedral. It is also the location of the Memorial to the victims of Chișinău pogroms in 1903-1905. If you are a Jew or you have Jewish background you must be at this park. But if you’re not it is still a place to be and communicate with such tragic memories.”

Păreri: „The best underground club in whole Moldova, even if it is in the 5th floor. You need to know where it is, cause its very hidden, but if you go through the door in the dark area, you step in to another world of Chișinău.”

„Amazing place, for all types of having fun, you can read a book, play ping pong, chat with people, or you can drink and dance all night long.”
