Noul aeroport din Beijing, ce poartă semnătura regretatului arhitect Zaha Hadid, va fi cel mai mare din lume.

Aeroportul este situat în districtul Daxing şi va fi inaugurat în 2019. El va fi folosit atât pentru zboruri comerciale, cât şi pentru a spori prezenţa aviaţiei civile chineze. El va servi drept bază pentru China Southern Airlines şi pentru China Eastern Airlines.

Potrivit companiei BuroHappold Engineering, care a câştigat licitaţia pentru amenajarea designului interior, pasagerii se vor bucura de multe spaţii largi, atât acoperite, cât şi în aer liber.

Potrivit site-ului de arhitectură al lui Zaha Hadid, „simetria aeroportului şi formele sale interconectate creează o compoziţie fluidă ce evocă armonia şi balanţa din peisajele chinezeşti”.

În faza iniţială de lansare aeroportul va avea patru piste (45 de milioane de pasageri pe an), două se vor adăuga mai târziu, împingând capacitatea aeroportului la 100 de milioane de pasageri pe an, ceea ce ar însemna că ar deveni cel mai mare aeroport din lume, după suprafaţă şi aproape cel mai aglomerat, după aeroportul Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
